Refund & Cancellation

Fair & clear policy.

Last updated: September 18, 2026

We want you to feel confident before, during, and after working with ClearPath Legal Document Assistant. This policy explains how cancellations and refunds work for our document-preparation services.

If anything here is unclear, contact us before you place your order and we'll walk you through it.

Questions about LDA contracts, cancellation and consumer protections?

This policy does not limit rights provided by California law. Business and Professions Code section 6410 requires a written services contract before services are provided. Our website terms and this policy do not replace that contract.

Under section 6410(f), in addition to other rescission rights, a client may cancel within 24 hours of signing the contract by giving the assistant any written statement that the contract is canceled. A cancellation mailed to the assistant with prepaid first-class postage is effective on the postmark date.

Section 6410(f) requires immediate return of fees upon voiding or rescinding the agreement, except fees for services actually, necessarily, and reasonably performed on the client's behalf with the client's knowing and express written consent. Starting or finishing work does not by itself remove this right or establish that exception.

Separately, section 6410(e) makes an agreement voidable at the client's option for failure to comply with subdivisions (a) through (d). When the client voids the agreement under that provision, fees paid must immediately be returned in full. This is distinct from the exception described in subdivision (f).

Your total cost has two separate parts. Our service fee covers preparing your documents at your direction. Government and court filing fees are set by the court or agency and are billed to you at cost. Filing fees are paid to the court or agency — not to ClearPath — and any refund of those fees is governed by the court or agency, not by us.

If you cancel before we have started preparing your documents, you are entitled to a full refund of our service fee. Just let us know in writing at help@cplda.com.

Outside a statutory right requiring a different refund, our policy is to refund the portion of our service fee for work not yet performed and retain a reasonable amount for work already completed. We will explain the calculation. This business policy does not override the immediate-return requirements, full-refund rights, or written-consent conditions described above.

Subject to all applicable statutory rights described above, our ordinary business policy is that the fee for completed and delivered work is generally non-refundable. Completion or delivery does not waive statutory cancellation, rescission, or refund rights. If you believe we made an error in entering the information or instructions you supplied, contact us promptly so we can address it.

We return fees immediately when California law requires immediate return. We do not impose a 5–10-business-day processing delay on those refunds. Refunds are ordinarily returned to the original payment method; bank or card-issuer posting time is separate from our obligation to return the funds.

For a written cancellation, you may email help@cplda.com or provide any written cancellation statement as described above. You do not have to use a special form. For questions, call (408) 930-9417; a phone conversation alone is not the written cancellation described in section 6410(f). Including your name and service helps us locate the engagement, but this policy does not add requirements to the statutory right.

Under Business and Professions Code section 6409, original client documents must immediately be returned when the client requests them, when the required contract is not executed or is rescinded, canceled, or voided, or when the contracted services have been completed.
