Preparing for Document Preparation
Organizing your records can help you communicate instructions and review a draft. An LDA prepares client-selected documents at your direction; a checklist cannot decide which forms you need or guarantee a complete or legally effective result.
General Information to Gather
Depending on the documents you selected, useful information may include:
- Full legal names, addresses, and contact information for all parties involved.
- Any existing court documents, case numbers, and prior orders related to your matter.
- Clear instructions on what you are requesting the court to order or what agreement you have reached.
Examples of Records to Organize
These are examples, not a list of required forms or a legal checklist. Gather records relevant to your selected documents and confirm the requested information before sending sensitive material:
- Divorce/Family Law: Existing papers, financial records, and family information requested by your selected forms. Legal questions about property classification or custody require an attorney.
- Living Trusts: Full names of your intended trustees, beneficiaries, and specific details of the assets to be placed in the trust.
- Evictions: A copy of the lease agreement, details of the tenancy, records of missed payments, and any notices previously served.
- Small Claims: Exact amount owed, dates of incidents, and copies of contracts, invoices, or demand letters.
Next Steps
Use ClearPath's initial contact form to describe the document service you are requesting, without sending unnecessary sensitive records. Confirm availability, the written scope, preparation fees, separate costs, and how requested records should be provided. A website inquiry is not a signed service agreement and does not start representation.
